Beach birds: Parrotheads’ Luau at the Lake set for Saturday at Elkhead Reservoir
The end of summer is approaching for Moffat County, which means it’s time for a local organization’s yearly gathering for water recreation, beach activities and more.
Northwest Colorado Chapter of Parrotheads’ annual Luau at the Lake takes place Saturday at Elkhead Reservoir.
The day begins at 10 a.m. with boat rides and paddleboard races, followed by games like cornhole, horseshoes, hula hooping, limbo, music and more around noon, while food is served up at 3 p.m.
Parrotheads will provide meat and cold beverages, and those in attendance are asked to provide sides to share.
Among the rules for the event: no glass containers and no dogs. Admission for the event is free, though day passes for the reservoir are required for all cars. Carpooling is recommended.
The luau serves as both a fun community gathering and a way to introduce people to the Parrotheads — part of a larger collective of fans of Jimmy Buffett following the credo “party with a purpose” — who, within the area, count river and highway clean-up and local scholarships among their outreach objectives, in addition to activities throughout the year.
4:19 a.m. On the 900 block of Industrial Avenue, police in Craig responded to a state parks related incident. Craig police said someone was looking around a business with flashlights, but police found the business secure and no crime had been committed.
