Baggs man arrested on drug-possession charge

A Baggs, Wyo., man was arrested on Wednesday for receiving packages filled with drugs, Baggs Police Chief Mark Lapinskas said.

Robert Peebles is being held in Rawlins, Wyo., at the Carbon County Jail on charges of violating parole and possession of methamphetamine.

Peebles has been a Baggs resident for about the past three years, Lapinskas said.

Lapinskas said police had been watching the Baggs man receive packages for about the past three months.

The alleged sender is from Southern California, the Baggs man’s native home.

A “small amount” of meth was discovered in a package allegedly being sent to the Baggs man.

Officials from the drug investigation arm of the U.S. Postal Service in Denver inspected it, Lapinskas said.

The man also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for a parole violation from that state, police said.

Members from the Baggs Po-lice Department, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Wyoming Division of Crim-inal Investigation South-west Enforcement Team assisted in the investigation.

“When we suspect something, we try to follow up on it,” Lapinskas said.

“We want people to know we’re trying to put a damper on the drug problem.”
