Ashley F. Chard

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Ashley F. Chard, daughter of Carol F. Miller of Dinosaur and Timothy S. Amy of Dinosaur, is currently in the middle of a routine scheduled deployment, while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, homeported in Bremerton, Wash.

Chard and more than 7,600 of her shipmates of the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group, deployed to the Persian Gulf in support of the global war on terrorism.

The Carl Vinson CSG recently relieved the USS Harry S. Truman CSG in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and maritime security operations.

Carriers such as the Carl Vinson are deployed throughout the world to maintain U.S. presence and provide rapid response in times of crisis.

They serve as a highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors and are equipped with the most versatile and powerful weapons and aircraft available.

Chard is a 2000 graduate of Rangely High School of Rangely and joined the Navy in October 2000.
