Ashley F. Chard

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Ashley F. Chard, daughter of Carol F. Miller of Dinosaur, and Timothy S. Amy of Dinosaur, recently returned from deployment while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Chard and more than 7,600 of her shipmates of the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group deployed to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and the Global War on Terrorism. Carl Vinson and Carrier Air Wing 9 launched more than 6,500 sorties, totaling more than 20, 000 flight hours in support of OIF and maritime security operations. Chard’s unit made port visits in Manama, Bahrain, Dubai, and United Arab Emirates. They also conducted 13 community relations projects, helping to build schools, shelters, and churches. Carriers like the Carl Vinson are deployed throughout the world to maintain U.S. presence and provide rapid response in times of crisis. They serve as highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors, and are equipped with the most versatile and powerful weapons and aircraft available. Chard is a 2000 graduate of Rangely High School of Rangely, and joined the Navy in October 2000.
