Ann Irvin: City, county outdid itself with first Relay for Life

Craig and Moffat County outdid itself again. This community is amazing and the people here continue to make it a great place to live.

Elisa Hayes was magnificent. She led the troops and created the Relay for Life here. Her organizational skills and passion for the project were instrumental in making it a huge success. Friday evening’s survivors’ lap and the luminaries’ ceremony were awesome, supportive, tender and overwhelmingly touching at times. Saturday was impressive when the hours wore on and the crowd didn’t wear out!

This will become an event for our community because of her inspiration. Her husband, Jay worked alongside her as did KRAI staff and Ken Prescott and 500 plus others. There were team captains and teams of volunteers and the organizations that donated food, equipment, time, and materials. There were musicians and speakers and people behind the scenes. It was a huge undertaking and we came off as champions again.

I hope that along with the suggestions for improvement, at debriefing and planning meetings for next year, there will be more offers of assistance.

Thanks to everyone who participated.

We treasure the memory of those we have lost, salute those who survive and support those who are battling.

Hoping for a Cure.

Thank you for Caring.

Ann Irvin
