Allen Hischke: Business woes in Craig

To the editor:

On Feb. 1, I attempted to do business with one of the downtown businesses. The sign on their door stated they would be open at 10 a.m. I got to the business a few minutes early, and was prepared to wait till 10 a.m.
I waited, and waited, and waited. Finally at 10:10 a.m., the door was unlocked. When I asked the person behind the counter if they had a watch, I received a stare that reminded me of a 5-year-old child. When I suggested that they look at their watch, I was told, “Well you know.” Hardly the statement of a mature adult.

This same waiting for a store to open has happened to me nearly every time I try to enter a downtown Craig business. These are the same businesses that want you to give them your money and complain when you go somewhere else, but for some reason can’t even be open on time.
I understand why these businesses are falling on hard times, it is apparent to me that they just don’t get it.
In the job I have, I am expected to be at work at a certain time, it seems that some businesses in Craig think a flexible schedule works for me. Just so they know, it doesn’t.
