Adult, youth mentor program celebrates anniversary

Lee Harstad

Celebrating a one-year anniversary, Moffat County Partners held an open house Wednesday evening in honor of a successful year.

Partners is a non-profit mentorship program that provides youth with an adult volunteer, or senior partner. Senior partners are matched in a one-to-one relationship with a youth, or junior partner. Partners asks for a one-year commitment, but many Partners keep in touch for five or 10 years or even a lifetime.

“Partners is great fun and it is a highly structured mentoring program,” said Moffat County Partners Executive Administrator Debi Landoll. “If we want to build a better community, we need to support the kids.”

Success has followed Partners since it began.

“We have made some absolutely fantastic strides,” Landoll said. “People are calling us to become partners and we are seeing results with the kids.”

Partners in Moffat County began about three years ago when Robin Schiffbauer and three others decided the county could use a one-on-one mentoring program. Since that time, Partners hired Landoll and the program has taken off.

“I am thrilled that it’s going so well,” Schiffbauer said.

According to Schiffbauer, Partners had a goal to make 12 partnerships the first year. With 14 senior partners and 31 junior partners, that goal has become reality.

Moffat County Partners was recently voted into full affiliate status with Partners, Inc. This makes the local chapter the 11th affiliate.

Tara Jenrich was selected as the new case manager of the Moffat County Partners and other acknowledgments were made on behalf of community members.

Moffat County Partners is always looking for more adult volunteers. According to Landoll, all it takes is a telephone call to Partners and the partnership can begin. Senior partners include Robin Schiffbauer, Pam Self, Robin McKenzie, Donna Reishus, Dona Shue, Amy Schram, Patty Askew, Pres Askew, Lee Gilmor, Courtland Folks, Rocky Baldozier, John Sagerser, Martin Schiffbauer and Steve Miller.

Moffat County Partners board members are Dave Schwerin, Jerry Hoberg, John Forgay, Andrew Young, Tim McNicol, Ernie Del Grosso, Robin Schiffbauer, Betty Baldozier and Ann Pankonia.

Past committee and board members include Carolyn Larralde, Carhy Lowher, Kathleen Taylor, Rosa Hedrick, Shannon Sparkman, Rex Splitt, Kent Nielson, Mason Siedschlaw, Rod Campbell and Mike Anthony.

Cyndi Arnett, Susie Clark, Elizabeth Campbell, Rosa Hedrick, Andre Huffmire, Leslie McGee, April Scheffel, Jayne Splitt, Monique Folk, Larry Kipe, Gregory Roberts, Martin Schiffbauer, Don Landoll, Jerry Hoberg, Robin Schiffbauer, Jim McNicol and Andrew Young were all recognized as United Way donor designators to Partners.

Presentations at the open house also included a special tribute to Robin Schiffbauer who founded Moffat County Partners.

Special thanks went out to local businesses, special volunteers and Cindy Biskup, Corrie Scott and Kent Nielson.
