Accused killer still in area jail
Judge finds probable cause to hold Nelums
Craig — Fourteenth Judicial District Judge Joel Thompson ruled Tuesday there was sufficient evidence to keep accused killer Luree Nelums, 44, behind bars.
Nelums was arrested June 14 after her husband, Gordon Ray Nelums, 48, was found dead in a motel room at the Colorado Inn. Nelums was charged with manslaughter and held on $50,000 bail.
Thompson took Nelums through the first step in the legal process Tuesday for her preliminary hearing, establishing probable cause to hold her. Nelums’ first appearance is scheduled for Sept. 27.
Nelums is currently being held in the Moffat County Jail. There is no record of a ruling on a motion from her attorney to reduce bail.
After two days of competition at the Colorado State High School Rodeo Association State Finals, riders and ropers from Moffat and Routt counties are making their way into the home stretch.
