State patrol suspect speed, alcohol contributed to wreck

— The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the cause of a one-vehicle rollover accident Wednesday night that claimed the life of a Wyoming teenager.

Zachary Bennett, 19, of Baggs, Wyo., died from injuries sustained in the crash. The accident occurred about 9:05 p.m. on Colorado Highway 13, about 35 miles north of Craig, the Highway Patrol reported.

“Excessive speed and alcohol are suspected to have contributed to the cause of this accident,” the State Patrol reported in a press release Thursday afternoon.

Bennett was driving a 1991 Pontiac Grand Prix southbound when the vehicle left the right side of the roadway as it entered a curve to the left. The vehicle then rotated counterclockwise and re-entered the roadway.

The car continued a counterclockwise rotation across the road and off the left side.

“The vehicle traveled down a slight embankment and rolled over 2 1/4 times,” the State Patrol reported. “The driver, Bennett, was ejected during the rollover.”
