5 sheep die in structure fire on Moffat County Road 15
CRAIG — Two ewes and three lambs died Monday morning when an outbuilding used for livestock caught fire at a property on Moffat County Road 15.
About 8:15 a.m. Craig Fire Rescue, the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office and Memorial Regional Health Emergency Medical Services responded to a call, which came from a neighbor who had noticed smoke coming from the property.
No one was home at the time, said Moffat County Sheriff KC Hume.
Initially, emergency responders thought they had evacuated all the livestock from the burning building, but later determined five sheep had died.
No damage was done to nearby buildings, and no other injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
The cause is under investigation.
