25 shades of Craig: “Catfish”

Many people are reaching out to the Internet to help them find that special someone who will capture their heart and also love them for who they are. One of the problems with this way of courting is where the urban dictionary’s definition of catfish comes into play.

“A catfish is someone who pretends to be someone they’re not using Facebook or other social media to create false identities, particularly to pursue deceptive online romances.”

More and more of these catfish stories are arising, so many that MTV has a new series called exactly that, “Catfish.”

The show follows people who have been in online relationships via emails, texts and tweets. A majority of the people claim to be the same person that the other has fallen in love with, with the exception of their physical appearance, which creates a big question for me.

Are we so wrapped up with physical looks that we could walk away from the strongest emotional connection we’ve ever had, a love that could move mountains just because of physical appearance?

I can honestly admit that I am quick to judge someone on the way they look. I also admit that I have learned my lesson and was blown away by a man I wasn’t initially physically attracted to.

Over time his personality, wit and charm won my heart and swept me off my feet, and the things that bothered me at first disappeared. So the old saying is true, you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover because you may be missing an amazing story.

Just make sure that you are taking the time and reading in-between the lines and not skipping over chapters.
