1 man wounded, 1 arrested in altercation Wednesday night
A man was punctured with a “sharp instrument” at Bear Valley Inn late Wednesday night in Craig, putting one man in the hospital and another in custody, according police officials.
At around 11:45 p.m., officers were called to the Bear Valley Inn for a report of a male bleeding.
When officers arrived to the scene, they found that Craig resident Joseph Picanco, 44, had been cut with a sharp instrument by Jerry Wyatt, 41, of Georgia.
“It was a cut opposed to a stab,” said Craig Chief of Police Walt Vanatta.
At this time the police department is not saying if it was a knife that wounded Picanco.
Picanco was transported to The Memorial Hospital and where he remains in stable condition, according to Jennifer Riley, chief of marketing and business development at the hospital.
Wyatt was arrested for first-degree assault. The incident is still under investigation.
Representatives from the Bear Valley Inn declined to comment.
The Craig Daily Press will update the story as more information becomes available.
2:10 a.m. On the 400 block of Washington Street, police in Craig responded to an animal complaint. Craig police said a caller reported being bitten by a dog and police continue to investigate.
