December 28, 1933 – June 1, 2021

Eleanor Carol Eitel was born December 28, 1933 in Las Animas, Colorado to Lloyd A and Mildred (Cusick) Butler. Carol spent her childhood in Manzanola, Colorado where she later graduated from Manzanola High School. At the age of 19, Carol met the love of her life Edward Eitel at the Navel Air Station in Corpus Christi, Texas. The two were later married on April 26, 1953 in Corpus Christi. To this union came four children; Ed, Mike, Rod and Donna. As a family they lived in Nucla, Golden and Sterling. As the boys went off to college, Carol, Ed and Donna moved to Craig in 1975. During her years in Craig, Carol was employed at Craig Middle school for 7 ½ years, as well as a receptionist for a local orthodontist office for 23 years. When Carol was not at work, she loved baking, cooking and canning. She had an avid interest in sewing and was a member of a sewing guild. Carol enjoyed being outside to garden, as well as playing with and training her dogs. She was also a longtime member of The Church of Christ. Above all else, Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always engaged in every family activity, as her family was her pride and joy. Carol passed away on June 1, 2021 at the age of 87. She is survived by her daughter Donna (Kevin) Deatherage; sons, Ed (Tam) Eitel, Mike (Karen) Eitel and Rod (Laurie) Eitel; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Carol was preceded in death by her devoted husband Ed; her parents, Lloyd and Mildred Butler; grandson Brian Eitel; sister Roberta Anderson; and brother Lloyd Wayne Butler. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 19, 2021 at The Grant Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow in Craig Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to a celebration of Carol’s life at 1:00 p.m. at the Luttrell Barn. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made toward a Memorial Bench in Carol’s name, in care of Grant Mortuary.
