Clara Irene (Butler) Stewart age 92 left this life November 30, 2020 at Sandrock Care Center in Craig, CO. She was born April 17, 1928 on Morrisania Mesa near Parachute, CO to Wiley and Kay Butler. When Clara was 2 the family moved to the homestead on Big Gulch NW of Craig, CO, where she spent her childhood with 3 siblings. Clara did her 1st grade of schooling at Midway rural school, attending Lower Big Gulch school through the 8th grade. She graduated from Moffat County High School in 1946. After taking correspondence courses from the Greeley Teachers College she received her teachers certificate and took a job teaching in the town of Moffat, CO. That is where she met her future husband, William Stewart. They were married at the Butler Ranch September 25, 1948. They made their 1st home in Monte Vista, but moved back to Moffat County where they spent the rest of their lives raising their family on a ranch NW of Craig on CR 5. Clara was active in the community and worked as a teachers aide at East School for many years.

Clara is survived by her children Ralph (Carol) and Tim (Donna) Stewart of Craig, CO, Elizabeth (Bob) Brooks, Glendale, AZ, Ruth (Gary) Somnitz, Geneva, OH. Several grandchildren, great grand-children and siblings Dick Butler and Mary Lou (John) Allen of Craig. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother Harry.

A celebration of Life will be held at the Craig Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. July 31, 2021 with lunch following at 2:00 p.m. at the Luttrell Barn, 411 Emerson St, Craig, CO. Donations may be made in her name to the Big Gulch Better Community Club in care of Grant Mortuary.
