Obituary: Alta “Jerrie” Simpson

Alta Dell “Jerrie” Simpson, 93, of Craig, Colorado, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025. She was born on February 19, 1932, in Craig to Walter and Louise Mansfield and was the only daughter among seven children. Jerrie married the love of her life, Earl Simpson, on May 23, 1948. Together they raised their family in Craig, where they owned and operated Yampa Valley Ready Mix and later G.E. Simpson, Inc. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who took pride in caring for her family and community. Jerrie volunteered over 15 years with The Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, serving multiple terms as president and earning the Volunteer of the Year award in 2004. She loved crocheting, gardening, and spending time with loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; daughter, Janine; and six brothers. Jerrie is survived by her children Judy (Donnie) Kendall and John (Sharon) Simpson, five granddaughters, and twelve great-grandchildren. A celebration of Jerrie’s life will be held on Saturday, November 15th at 10:00 a.m. at Grant Mortuary in Craig, Colorado. Her warmth, generosity, and love will be forever remembered by all who knew her.
