New Creation Church offers eggs-actly what Craig families want for Easter

The 26,000 plastic eggs that blanketed the lawn of New Creation Church of Craig didn’t last long, but the quick clean-up of the holiday goodies only showed the level of excitement present Saturday morning.

New Creation’s seventh annual egg hunt provided fun for families during the Easter weekend.

For mom Kayla Crowley and son Declan, 6, the good times started very early, spending much of Friday helping organize and setting up several hours before the kickoff Saturday.

“We were here at 7 a.m. today,” Kayla said. “I love helping the community and being able to get kids know who God is.”

Declan couldn’t complain with his role.

“I got to test out all the jump houses,” he smiled.

Bounce houses, a petting zoo, bubble ponds and more were part of the warmup as kids got registered, though everyone quickly dropped everything once the hunt was on.

Though it went fast, as the eggs quickly went in buckets, baskets, bags and pillowcases, the rainbow of eggshells quickly went back in bins for next year as kids and parents cracked them open for the bounty.

“I think my favorite part is eating all the candy,” grinned 9-year-old Carson Haskins.

He had plenty of reason to smile later on as well, as the winner of a Batman-themed Easter basket, one of a multitude of prizes handed out by organizer Amber Goodenow.

Goodenow noted that Walmart donated bikes and baskets, while McDonald’s and Wendy’s provided plentiful coupons for ice cream, and Kelsie Barnes offered manicures as a prize for some of the girls’ baskets.

She also credited KC Hume with providing a sound system for announcements and KRAI with free airtime, as well as the large crew of church volunteers who aided with the hunt.

“I just love our community,” she said. “This was a wonderful year for us.”

Bella Vanzo, 10, won one of the grand prizes: a $100 Walmart gift card.

“I was so happy because I never win anything,” she said, beaming.

When it came to the holiday jubilation, there were too many perks for her to mention.

“I love Easter because it’s so colorful and happy and spring and it’s warm,” Vanzo said.
