Mr. Boyer, The story in the paper today is a perfect example of one of the many problems with the Daily Press. “US Rep. Tipton reintroduces hydropower, fire treatment bills to Congress” Mr. Tipton was in Craig for a public meeting also. Why do we have to read what he said to Steamboat instead of what was discussed with Moffat County citizens???
Is it because it is easier to “cut and paste” a story from Steamboat paper than it is to have a reporter attend in Craig? Also, how ironic….this story is under “local news” in the Daily Press. If you want to improve the readership of our paper, then write about Moffat County news!!!! If I want to read about Routt County, I can read online…….for free!!!!

I sure wish these DCI representatives could be here in the middle of winter. Then they could see why nobody goes downtown to shop…..you can't get there. A person has to park 4ft away from the crub because of snow and ice. A person can't get from their car to the sidewalk because of a 3ft icy berm. Most of the sidewalks are unshoveled and now they have layer's of road sanding material. For everyone that went to the art walk, what a mess navigating around downtown. To someone traveling through our town, who would want to stop and visit. Downtown looks like a dump. Even with all the snow in Steamboat you never see sidewalks with snow and sand on them. Oh I know I heard the excuses, “the road belongs to CDOT”, “we can't do their roads” Highway 40 go's right through Steamboat also. Let's hope the City of Craig dosen's start cleaning downtown just for this visit. Let's show them what it is really like and then listen to their $9.000.00 worth of idea's.

Why is this news story even in your paper. Does it have anything to do with Craig? Moffat County? The western slope? Or is it just to fill space in your paper? How about news storys from OUR area!!!!! Do you even know where Pine is?

This is why I think there is a perception of price fixing in Craig. If you look at the price of gas in Steamboat and Hayden, not many of the stations are at the same price. In Hayden with two places I have seen 10cents differents. Steamboat the prices have been 20cents differents between stations. But in Craig……..every station is the same price. If one goes up, they all go up, one goes down they all go down. It looks like every morning they all got togeather and said let's charge this much today. The people will pay it, what choice do they have. I must admit, it looks like the prices are a little different the last month or so. Not low enough though.

Mr. Martin, Maybe you should listen to KRAI news. This was on the radio on Wed. Oct. 31st.
“capital christmas tree to stop in craig and steamboat
Craig has been added to the list of stops for the Capital Christmas Tree. This year’s tree will be cut from the White River National Forest near Meeker, and then will travel the country, before being displayed at the White House. The tree will be cut Friday, and the Meeker Chamber and the Meeker Rec Center are offering to take a limited number of people to watch the cutting. If you’re interested in going on that trip, call 878-3403. The tree will be displayed in Meeker over the weekend. Tuesday, it starts its trip to the White House, with the first stop being in Craig. Craig residents will be able to view the tree at 1:30 while it’s parked on the road between East Kum & Go and the fairgrounds.”
They seem to know what's going on. I'm calling “bull” about your story your telling me about “That information first came out Friday afternoon, and details about the stop still are being worked out, so there was no way to prepare a full story about an event when no solid details were available until today”.
As for your other excuses as to why we don't deserve better news coverage. It looks like it is easier for the Daily Press to look for stories on the AP. Your words we ” were able to post to craigdailypress.com with no added effort”. ” It was an easy way” Maybe you would have room for local stories on Sat. if you would stay away from AP stories.
As for the Eco-Flight, sounds like they were studying the Yampa River. I would think the Yampa is pretty important to Craig and Moffat County.

It is so nice to have a newspaper that reports news of interest to Craig, To bad it is the Steamboat paper. Yesterday the Steamboat Today had pictures and a story of the cutting of the Christmas tree going to Washington from Meeker. Let's see the Daily Press, our paper had a little snippet in the “brief” column today.
Another example…. On Oct. 21st. The Daily Press had an article about “EcoFlight program” . The Steamboat Today had the interview, in Craig, but was a video news story, a person actually got to see the people involved, the air planes used.
Oh, but the people of Craig did get to read about the firing of the Pitkin County landfill manager being fired and the CPW investigating a poaching in “LAMAR”!!!!

The people that leave their litter around town after their yard sale should be given a littering ticket. How much easier can it be. Code enforcment officers on Monday morning go to the corners that get the litter, take a picture of the violations and contact the litters with a ticket. They have the address of each pig that is littering. They must want a ticket if they are to lazy to pick up their signs. If they have more than one sign, they get more than one ticket. If they get a $50 or $100 fine maybe the word would get around and this would stop. Or the daily press could take a picture and publish the address of all the pigs that littered each week. Would maybe more interesting than a lot of the news storys now.

loneyone Been gone a couple days. I didn't express myself as intended. I was trying to make a comparison for ranger520 that every project can't go out to vote. I have many friends that live in Shadow Mt. I did sound like I didn't care about what happens there, trust me that is not the case. There are some really nice properties and some big garages I would die for. Also to make this more FD related….. I bet they like water lines that they know are dependable. With all the construction planned Shadow Mt. is going to be a mess for awhile.

Not even close to being ticked. Always have liked a friendly discussion. I try to see the other's point of view, to see if my thoughts are wrong or right. Have been proved wrong many times in my young life. I just can't seem to understand your point of view on not trusting the decisions of our elected officials and wanting to go to a public vote on every item at every November election. So I'll ask again….Do you, Ranger520, think we should put it to a vote in November the Shadow Mountain upgrades? Or do you trust the decisions made by our elected officials? It is such a simple couple of questions. I'm a betting person and I'm betting I know how you are going to answer these two questions. I'll write down how I think you will respond and show you after you answer. OK?
