I believe the smaller connecting airports should keep the scanners if it means a thorough screening. IF the same level of security can be reached by hiring a few more actual people to search each traveller then that's ok…but we all have heard the stories of the 'over zealous' TSA screeners. The smaller airports are an easy way to enter the secure areas of major airports, so I don't think easing security in them is a good idea…I know if I was a 'bad guy' I wouldn't try to go directly through security at a major airport. I would try going smaller first…then once you are in the system, you aren't screened again. I know YVRA isn't a big airport, but it is an access point to DIA and should be treated accordingly.

I try to shop local, I really do! But more often than not, I can't get what I'm looking for here. Face it, there aren't a lot of choices in this area, so if I have to get it somewhere else, I will. As far as the rec center, it has been brought up several times over the 20+ years I have been in Craig, and the response from this community has been the same, “it's too expensive, I don't want my taxes to go up, there wouldn't be enough demand for it, there is plenty to do here already”…..etc etc. I don't think we need a huge monstrosity of a complex, but a nice indoor pool, walking track, and basketball court might be nice. Maybe set near a park so it would draw families in the warm months too. Maybe on a level site, so we don't have to worry about it sliding off the hill like the high school!

Oh great! Another attempt to skirt the law. The legal drinking age is still 21 in this state. Are we gonna let 14 year olds drive as long as mom or dad are in the car with them too. Are resturants and servers going to have to ask for a birth certificate now to verify the kid is actually with their parents? How about we let the law stand, and the kid can wait until she is 21 to have a cocktail at dinner. Make her a Shirley Temple instead, then she can have a “drink” with mommy and daddy.

It's time to go back to the basics. Stop advancing students who are failing, keep them behind until they are actually ready to advance to the next grade. Let teachers teach…too much of our educators time is spent in endless busywork that does nothing to actually help the students. It wouldn't matter if we kept the kids in school 24/7 if the political atmosphere keeps teachers more worried about losing their job than doing it. Too many kids are being graduated unprepared in the most basic skills of reading and math. As long as the percentage of students graduating meets a certain point we won't care that they are reading at an 6th grade level and even lower in math. It's time we graduate quality instead of quantity.

So, basically what the board has stated is since we can't figure out a perfect solution, lets agree to do absolutely nothing. I work in the retail industry that sees hundreds of transactions using food stamps (quest card), and many of them are supporting people who are in a tight spot and need assistance. Those are becoming fewer and fewer it seems. The shift in users of the food stamp program is a little disturbing. We have able bodied young men using food stamps to buy their lunches for work, ( girl friends card?). We have women with their third or fourth baby born while mom or dad has no job and seems to have no intention of getting one, and yes we do have a good number of out and out drunks using food stamps. Not to mention the many non english speaking persons who are using food stamps to buy groceries, then using crisp $100's to buy the non-food items. The system is so loosely monitored that anybody can use anybodies card if the PIN number is shared. Is that fraud? Probably. But there is nobody checking it. So maybe the idea of a random drug test to ALL food stamp receipients is an inconvenient concept, and maybe we won't have 100% screening success, but it would probably discourage some people from blatent abuse of the system. If they pop a hot drug test, offer treatment assistance, but put a time limit on it. Maybe require an identification check when the card is used, like some credit cards require ID. Something. Anything. The current set up is ripping off tax paying, working people. And I don't care if it offends a few people. I am offended that my tax money is so obviously being wasted.

Well I hope all this remodeling will include bigger signs to direct people to the appropriate parking areas. I recently had to pick someone up from YVRA, at night, during a snow storm, and I'm pretty sure we parked in the wrong place, but none of the 4-5 other drivers that were there also were sure where the passenger pick-up parking area was either. Bigger signs and better lights would be great.

2.88 acres for $25,500? In town,???? I think the appraisal is a bit light. I don't blame the VFW for not going along with it, especially if they don't have to.

Chickens are OK…just no roosters please. The clucking and cherrrring of hens isn't a problem, but please not pre-sun rise crowing roosters. (you don't need roosters for hens to lay eggs anyway)

In absolute agreement with “truthhurts”. Probably 7 out of 10 Grand Old West Days are in awful weather. It is either raining and windy…or snowing and windy. It is just too early in the season. We have three events going on in the same weekend and it isn't easy to give all three our best support. If they are worried about an event being too big by combining GOWD and Whittle The Wood and the YL car show….there are other weekends in the summer that are currently completely boring! Try scheduling something just for Grand Old West Days alone. Spread the activities out a bit so we could really enjoy the event. Keep the Memorial weekend for families celebrating our graduations, and honoring our Military.

I would like to know where people got the idea that natural gas production is somehow more benign to the environment than coal. Just take a drive from Rifle to Debeque and look at the landscape or read what the people of the Grand Valley are dealing with. Tainted wells, chemical contamination of the air from benzene, just the general destruction of land and views by the drilling and the pipelines and the huge compressor stations. They have tried to hide them by painting them and “natural” brown, but the whole valley is a mess. How is that better than an underground mine that takes up maybe 25-40 acres of surface ground that can be reclaimed to a nearly natural state when the mine is finally done? The front range doesn't have to see the damage done on the western slope by the natural gas industry so it must be better than coal….how about the big cities try converting to solar first…then when they have done that to off-set the energy from the coal fired powerplants, the mines can be phased out.
