Peabody uses PMS employees more as a screening process than temporary labor. Many of the PMS workers become regular Twentymile employees after a period of time. But numbers of total employees are down from 4 to 6 years ago. Coal has been attacked in Colorado (remember House Bill1365) and I believe it does set the tone for how coal companies view their future. Coal must become more competitive and the quickest way is to trim their labor costs. Personally I believe that America will keep burning coal well past my lifetime and Northwest Colorado will remain the state's leader in coal production. I agree with Steve that regulation of the oil and gas industry has hurt Northwest Colorado more than regulations on the coal inustry. Numbers of workers in these industries seem to be very reduced from numbers 10 years ago. House Bill 1365 was rather interesting as it seemed to give natural gas an advantage over an ally; the coal industry. I believe the real winner will be natural gas from other states as the front range regulated most of Colorado natural gas out of the market. Of course, this is just my opinion I could be wrong.

I believe the editorial board rotates regulary and is welcome to all Craig residents. Perhaps instead of complaining about their editorials, you might ask if you could serve on the board. Just sayin.........

Great having Mitt Romney stop in today....... he brought up several points that show why we need a change in leadership. Great job Twentmile coal for busing their employees down in support of Governor Romney. Nice to see in person the next President of the USA! Hats off also to Frank and Kerri Moe for caring so much about their community and what they believe.

Im suprised that anyone would claim that the denial of this liquor license is racially motivated. Mr. Tarango appears to have painted himself into a corner and gave the city council no choice but to deny his application. No racially motivated conspiracy theory here. "Honked up rednecks"? If thats true ( and I don't believe it is) the redneck masses weren't needed in this case. Mr. Tarango was his own worst enemy. "Honked up rednecks"........ thats funny.

The original CDP article reported this whole case started when a local rancher saw one of his cows on Mr. Pilgrim's land and reported it to the local authorities (sheriff and brand inspectors). I'm sure that the remaining "victims"had no idea before the investigation was underway. Any charges filed against Mr. Pilgrim come from the county and state not the victims. I believe we may see some of your questions answered in this trial. Mr. Pilgrim will certainly get his day in court. Seems to me that the number of animals invoved and elapsed time between their disappearence are probably reasons that this case is so serious. I don't think its terribly odd that most of the victims are anonymous as I think thats pretty standard in theft trials. I think it is irrelevant who the victims are...... that doesn't change the facts in the case. I eagerly await this trial.

I tend to disagree with you wrestlingrockies when you say "Colorado is a liberal state" and "Craig has been in the minority in every major decision or election". I think we remember George W. being elected President twice (major decisions which carried in Moffat County). Conservatives have been elected senator and governor in fairly recent times. Colorado did carry for Barack Obama but not by a staggering majority. Colorado is made up of liberals and conservatives in fairly equal numbers. Moffat County does vote conservative but thats true in rural areas across the nation. Wrestling, I am neither liberal or "confused" and don't believe that Moffat County is as backward as you believe. I am a Western Republican willing to give civil unions the same rights as married couples. And I don't believe religion has any part in this conversation.

Much better blog, rebelgirl, I thought there was some intelligence behind the ranting. For the record, I come from along line of Colorado ranchers, hunters, coal miners and rodeo enthusiaists. I raise cattle, train horses and yes,I have rode broncs in rodeos. I hunt animals, fish as often as I can, and I believe I respect and treasure animals as much or more than any animal rights activist. Most people with a similar background have the same respect and love of animals. My people are gun toting, meat eating, hard working Americans. That said I think your passion is great and wish you luck in educating others about your passion. Keep it nice.

Good point, brian, civil unions not marriage. Give same sex civil unions the same rights as married couples but leave religion out of the equation. Goverment and religion have no place together. It seems to me that too much emphasis is placed on the word marriage. Recognize civil unions and let this"problem" become what it should be- a non-issue.

Wow rebelgirl, you have some serious anger issues. You can't tell me that if you really want to change things and make a difference that it is impossible. Isn't that what the US is all about? Maybe the first step is you trying to make a difference? I know our country sure is better than any of the alternatives. No one "lives in a bubble" just because they don't share your opinion. Your "crap" isn't any more important than needstoknows "crap"........ actually all your crap is really amusing. I'm glad we have you to "actually care about things" but I think I can make my own decision about whats right or wrong. Gotta love your passion but keep an open mind if you want others to give your opinions the same respect. Circuses, rodeos and everything else are what we as the consumer allow them to be.

Good insghts editorial board. I believe that this decision is going to be seen as contoversial no matter what decision is reached. I also wonder if such a business can suceed here. Any new business deserves a chance but the location seems questionable. Good luck City Council.
