     Ryan,

In a report being released by the Red Cross, which has investigated these claims, they have found at least 20 events of torture, many going on for prolonged periods, involving sleep deprivation, blinding lights, waterboarding, intense physical and psychological pain, and frigid temperatures, cold enough to cause pneumonia.” These individuals who are being “tortured” will gut you in your sleep. Cut your head off in front of your family, bash your brains in, blow up your school, carve your eyes out with a spoon, and do it with a clear conscience in the name of GOD – and all just because you looked at his wife in a way that doesn't fit with HIS religous beliefs or because you believe a person has the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness according to the dictates of their own conscience. He will spit on your civil liberties and burn your constitution. His sanctity of life and individual rights are what ever he says they are according to his belief in the Koran. He will stop at nothing to ensure you are dead and his way is the only way. Then he will stand behind the rights you profess to believe with the sole purpose of preserving his own sorry exhistence.

20 tortures? We make them go without sleep? Waterboarding? Cold temperatures? I endured worse to get into a fraternity in college. Our country did worse to British spies during the revolutionary war. Washington the father of our country ordered worse. President Grant as a general ordered southern women to be treated as whores if they acted that way and approved rape and public beatings. President Truman ordered the dropping of nuclear bombs on thousands of japanese civilians so American lives could be saved. If 20 terrorists have to be adjusted so we can save countless american lives its not only what our military should do, they have an obligation to do it. You be one of the family members of the thousands that were lost in 911 and be told that we could have stopped it but the terrorist we had in captivity wouldn't talk when we threatened him with rootbeer and ice cream and we didn't think it was a good idea to use waterboarding to get the information out of him because it violates his civil liberties.

Come back in a few years with a better argument and maybe someone will take you serious.

I am a little confused about this statistic. The article says that the number of girls who reported being sexually assaulted jumped 27% “The number of Moffat County High School senior girls who reported being sexually victimized increased by 27 percent last year from the 2005-06 school year, according to the 2007-08 Healthy Kids Colorado Survey.”

Then the article says that 27% of 12th graders reported being sexually assaulted. “According to the survey, 27 percent of the high school's 12th-grade female students reported being sexually victimized or forced to have sexual intercourse against their will.”

I am confused….. If 27% of senior girls reported being sexually victimized in 2007 then roughly 40 or so of the 150 girls were who were seniors were victimized and I don't remember even one rape being reported in the paper. As the father of a teenage daughter I would liked to have known we had a bunch of rapists running around Craig. If a high school has 1/4 of it's co-eds are being raped how is this not getting out to the community, to the police, and to the paper. But the article said that none reported beign sexually victimized in 2006. If 1 had reported being victimized in 2006 then the increase to 40 would be a 4000% increase wouldn't it?

The principal of the high school said it's “disturbing.” This article is stating that 1 in 4 of our girls are being raped. This level isn't even in large metro areas. This isn't disturbing its boarding on insanity if 1 in 4 are being raped.

I think a few things may have happened here. 1) somebody didn't read the survey right, because we have two reports in the paper that the number increased by 27% and then that the total number of seniors who were raped was 27%. 2) A 27% increase could have been that there were 11 cases in 2006 and then 14 cases in 2007 and the increase of three caused the 27% increase from year to year. 3) If it is as the paper reports that a full 27% or 40 girls were raped in 2007 and none in 2006 then either there is serial rapist loose in Craig or a bunch of girls made a pact this year to lie on the survey as we use to when we were in highschool. When I was a senior we lied like crazy on these things. I never drank in highschool but in these surveys I stated I was getting wasted every night. Most of my friends said the same thing.

Regardless, I would like some clarification from the paper on these points.

Iggnorance is no defense. If you don't know where you are at or have never hunted an area…..if there is any question as to whether you are taking something illegally, then DON'T shoot it. “gee I didn't know” would cover my but so why should it cover yours. I've hunted with people in the South and deer are like rabbits down there and people shoot what ever they want. Well it doesn't work that way out here…. IF you can't follow the laws, if you can't understand the rules, then stay home.

Ms. Oldham seems to be pretty level headed candidate for the DA's office – I Wonder how it will work out for her because she isn't from Steamboat?

How come the romans, egyptians, greek, early american settlers, english, french (even the french for crying out loud), russians, chinese, etc can build building that last longer than 50 or 60 years? We get a building that is fifty years old and have it condemned and tear it down and build a new one. My dad went to school in a building that was 50 years old when he was in the second grade and they are still using it today (its about 90 years old now). Just curious.

Mayo Clinic has some really great sounding services. I guess this means Dr. Collins will be the next to get the ax at our hospital. I bet he doesn't last to the end of the year. Thanks for your many years of service. Best of Luck.

You all have good points. There are alot of dedicated teachers who go above and beyond and spend more than 6 hours a day, but most of my teachers in MC highschool had student aids grade the papers, had the same lesson plans and tests that they have used over and over again for years with no change what so ever, and could teach a class in their sleep (and often did). I do find it interesting that a person has to be taught how to teach. That really doesn't make any sense. I have a masters degree in chemistry, but am not qualified to teach junior high because I don't have a teaching certificate. I have taught in colleges and universities, but I am not qualified to teach highschool. Does that make sense? No - Highschool math, science, history, english, etc. has not changed in 20 years with the exception of some new tools such as computers etc. that are as difficult to learn as programing you coffee maker. I substitute all the time and the feedback from the students is always the same. Teachers regergitate something from a text book for 20 minutes, give an assignment, and then kick back and surf the net, text message, or grade an assignment. Yes 10 - 15% do go the extra mile and they are the teachers singled out for their accomplishments. The vast majority are earning forty bucks an hour and have their summers off. You fooling yourself if you think it is a strenuous job. Thankless? Yes. Tedious? Yes. But difficult? My Great Aunt taught school and all she had was a highschool education herself, 15 year old text books, and a two room school house and everyone of those kids received a better education than I did from MCHS.
