The most recent editorial opinion written by the Craig Daily Press regarding Commitment to Excellence contained some errors that I would like to explain and apologize for.
This opinion piece stated that teachers are noticeably absent from community organizations committed to excellence in education In Moffat County.Fact is, there are indeed teachers, counselors, assistant principals, the athletic director, the assistant superintendent, the superintendent and board members involved in the three such community organizations.
This editorial in particular had many things that went awry.
First and foremost a mistake was made in formulating the opinion based on information provided to us by one individual. The normal
process for our editorial board is to gather information from each source in every situation; we simply didn't do that in this case.In addition, all board members were not present for the entire discussion and therefore the opinion written was not a true representation of the editorial board.
I make mistakes sometimes and I believe this is one of my largest to date and I am sure I will make some in the future. I personally feel like the majority of teachers and staff members employed by the Moffat County School District are committed to improving the results.
I know they donate far more than $20, $30 or $40 simply in the management of the education of our children.I apologize for any problems this piece may have caused and I look forward to seeing our school system progress forward in achieving a higher standard.

I want to make sure that facts are communicated. I know sometimes it is more exciting to ignore them, but I think it is important that we are all dealing with the same set of facts.
The council doesn't necessarily follow their own ordinances regarding the determination of whether or not an item is on the consent agenda. That format is simply a more efficient manner in which the council (and many boards) choose to deal with less controversial items. Not an ordinance.
The council also had the opportunity to remove the item from the consent agenda - they also had the opportunity to discuss items in the consent agenda.

     Patick,

Thank you you for your advice, as you know I appreciate hearing from readers. Please keep in mind I am not charging to get community participation. We are simply charging for the online content that we charge for in print.

    Buff_bronc_fan,

Yes, I have made some changes. We are no longer selling the “takeover” ads that we used to. In addition, effective October 1, 2012 we will no longer offer sound to begin upon entering the site or refreshing. Sound will still be available for advertisers but only after the reader has chosen to come in contact with the ad itself.

Please let me know if there are any other questions.

     Reader1,

I completely understand what you are saying, however it is my opinion that this public information has a place in the newspaper. I will say that this practice is never taken lightly and we revisit our procedure regularly.

    Thank You

    Country Mom,

Thank You for your questions. I am not sure which fires you are referring to, we have covered a ton of fires this summer, I can't promise that we were on the site of each of them but we mentioned each and every one of the fires we were aware of.

With regards to the accident in Ridgeview we most definitely covered that. The story was published earlier this week.

I can promise you that we work very diligently to cover any and all news events that occur in our area. We are not perfect, nor will we ever be and I also know that we can do better. I am very proud of my staff, they are a great group of folks that truly have a passion for sharing the news and information that matters to our readers.

Please call us at 824-7031 in the event you see a news event happening, even if we are already aware, we would appreciate the news tip.

    Thanks
