Commissioner Gray is correct. We should not be using taxpayer money to buy property rights from local landowners. How much taxpayer money has been wasted in buying conservation easements from local ranchers? Millions, I bet. How much taxpayer money has been spent on providing subsidies to the agriculture community? Millions, I bet.
We have socialized medicine right here in Moffat County. The local hospital is now hiring doctors, which compete with private local doctors.

If the City allows Geokinetics to use the streets and alleys for the survey, the City should be liable for any damage done to our property. The City should not incurr this potential liability.

Wasn't it just a few months ago that Commissioner Mathers and Mr. Comstock were ranting and raving of how Governor Ritter had destroyed the oil and gas development in Moffat County? If those regulations were so bad, why are these companies spending all of this money to get oil and gas leases in Moffat County? It leads one to believe that Commissioner Mathers and Mr. Comstock don't know what they are talking about or were they just being a shill for oil and gas companies?

If my memory serves me correctly, I think Sheriff Jeff and the Safety Center Committee told the residents of Moffat County that the new facility would not cost the residents of Moffat County anything. The jail would pay for itself by taking in prisoners from around the state and federal prisoners. Show me the money! Sounds like VP Cheney telling us that the Iraq War would cost the US anything because the oil revenues would pay for the war. The county has the statutory obligation to provide for a jail. Has the county accounted for all the revenue received in housing prisoners? Maybe an independent audit is needed.

Mrs. Danner did the right thing. As soon as it was drawn to her attention that candidates may be violating the Hatch Act, she had the obligation legally and morally to advise them of the potential violation of the law. She was saving the individual and county of possible future penalties. Federal law controls over state or local law. If anyone should step aside it should be Mr. Ponikvar.

Sage_Sam makes a very good point. In addition, in the 1800's women couldn't were considered to be the property of their husband and couldn't own property in their own name. We had slavery and blacks were considered 3/5ths of a human for purposes of allocating seats in the House of Representatives. The native americans still controlled Colorado in the early 1800s. I'm not sure that I want to go back to the way things were in the 1800's.

Bryce, keeping writing your opinions. Quite often I don't agree with your conclusions, it is very important to have a discussion of the issues. The media is the Fourth Estate that keeps track and advises the citizens as to government actions. The city council's action in the Reina case is reprehensible. They were advised that the charter provision was unconstitutional but instructed the City Attorney to prosecute Mr. Reina. The involvement by the ACLU was solely caused by the City's actions. The economic development organization has been a joke for the last 40 years. Is has not produced any jobs in the community, but just spent tax dollars.

This is an interesting story. I heard that the reason that Steve was forced to resign was that the players “weren't having fun.” Is there a problem between parent-child communication? Or are the parents not having fun because the players aren't winning enough games and their egos are bruised?

lgmillerni, you are correct I don't know you or your son. I believe that our differences are only about the purpose and goals of high school athletics. I certainly did not want to hurt your feelings. We just have a difference of opinioin. Reasonable people can differ.

Lgmillerni raises a good point about the purpose of high school athletics. When I played football and basketball in middle school and high school, I never thought that practice was fun. The purpose of practice was to make me a better player through hard work and good teaching techniques by the coaches. When all the players practice hard during the season and the offseason, the team becomes better. You develop good relationship between your teammates and respect the time and effort the coaches put into the program. The fun part of sports is when you play well and maybe win some games against other teams who have also worked hard to become better. What I find distressing is that players and their parents believe that if the child lays on the couch watching football and basketball and playing video games they will somehow become a good athlete. If that doesn’t happen, then it has to be someone else’s fault, namely, the coach. The parents and the players want all the glory, but are not willing to pay the price on getting better. If you want your child just to have fun, then they should participate in pickup games, inter-murals or town team ball.
