Hi Vicki - I am not sure how it is now but health care insurance was not offered to me when I was a school board member. Just FYI...

"The reason for the budget deficit is low enrollment, plain and simple."
You are correct Mr. Gaffney. So it confuses me that no one - staff, administration, board members - are trying to find out why students are leaving the district. My son left Moffat County High School two years ago and no one ever followed up with him as to why. I have my own theory as to why no one asked him but that is not relevant at this point in time. Anyway, I have mentioned to staff, administrators and board members that I believe it would be in the district's best interest to conduct exit interviews to determine the reason why students are leaving. Because you can't fix a problem if you don't know what the problem is, correct? I work for GOAL Academy and have asked many of our students if they were given exit interviews when they chose to leave the district and the answer is consistently "No". The district is losing many students which equate to funding and yet no one is asking Why? Just does not make any sense to me......
Very well deserved honor! Lorrae has been my 4 children's bus driver since they each started kindergarten. The last child is now a junior and drives himself to school but Lorrae will always hold a special place in each one of their lives. She has seen them through it all, the good, the bad and the ugly and yet she still loves them and is a trusted person in each of their lives. Thanks Lorrae for doing what you do!!!!!! :) You truly are a special friend.
Congratulations Renee!!! So very sad to see you leave us at the Holiday Inn but so very happy and excited for you as you embark on a new adventure!
Craig "city" voters. I live in the county and therefore am denied the right to vote for city officials :(
Patrick, LOVE your energy and enthusiasm for improving education in Moffat County. This coming November, there will be, I believe, 5 positions up on the school board election. Maybe you can spread your enthusiasm and get more people interested in serving on the board. When I initially ran for the school board in 2003, there were 3 seats available for election and mine was the only contested seat. Four years later when I ran again, NO contested seats. I was term limited in 2011 with 4 seats up for election. I believe Tony St. Johns district was contested but 2 were not and one district did not even have a candidate so a board member had to be appointed. My point is that boards are supposed to represent the community in which they serve BUT If the community members do NOT participate, it is difficult, to say the least. I can honestly say to you that for the 8 years I served on the Board of Education, there was never a decision made without asking the question, "what is best for our students." Thanks again for your thought provoking editorials and comments.
“I set a fire, I lit my trash — albeit in a closed container and while it was raining — with absolutely no risk of it spreading,” Gray said. “I violated the letter of the law and I am guilty of that without question. Would I do it again? Absolutely not."
He admits guilt to violating the law and yet is not fined? Any expense incurred to the call out should be paid and an apology should be forthcoming to this community for his blatant disregard of the fire ban.
Congratulations Lauren and good luck to you as you enter into your "new adventure". You will do great!
What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful lady. Your mom was a wonderful person and I know this would have brought a huge smile to her face! We truly enjoyed listening to you play.
Well said Sandie! JoAnn, thank you for throwing your hat in the ring. I can't think of a better person for the job!!!
