I think the reporter who wrote this story needs to cover some other sport - - - “For years, Shirkey, 65, has tried to achieve a bowler’s dream — ten throws, ten strikes — only to come up short.” Sorry bud, there are 12, not 10, strikes in a perfect game.

Then, “Shirkey joined only four other bowlers to match the same feat.” Sorry again, better check your facts before writing a story - there are a huge number of 300 games sanctioned by the PBA. For example, Parker Bohn III has rolled 85 perfect games during 24 PBA tour seasons.

LOL - - “This year's squad has 75 players, including 19 starters - 10 on offense and nine on defense.” Be careful - your opponents will be starting 22 players - - 11 on offense and 11 on defense. You may want to re-think your tactics!

Blondi, thank you for your comment. I hope your brother made it back for good and not just on leave for a while. Yes, the military did some crazy things during that era (no sunglasses in uniform included) and it often made you wonder exactly who we were fighting - - them or us! Again, thank you.

It's a darn shame when you have to pay $10 to fish for free - - - - wait a minute - - - - is this what they call “inflation”? Now I think I get it - it used to be free but now it costs $10 to be free. What a clever concept!
