     Dave,

Did you type that with a straight face? Besides you, name one single person (by name) who will miss Barry? Not even George is going to miss him. Did you read the email?

     Joanne,

Your case isn't everything you make it out to be. You would not have been pleased with the service if it was done at the Ritz and performed by Dr. Wiley. I would like to back up what Mustang is saying about our staff. The nurses, doctors, and staff are top notch. Ok we have a couple quacks in the ER for doctors, but we do have others who do a very good job and are very well trained and all the nurses in the ER do a great job. The problem isn't our staff it is our administration. We have a hundred people in our business office trying to collect money and only one nurse in the ER. Do you know how hard it is to treat multiple patients when you are the ONLY nurse down there? One morning we had a half a dozen patients hit the door at the same time and four of the six only spoke spanish and we very few people who can speak spanish around here. Every other day we have really competant staff leave and they are replaced by new grads and people who have never worked in a hospital before. This is our leaderships way of saving money. Our staff is going the extra mile to make sure you receive the best care possible, its our leadership here that has hung you out to dry. Next time, put the blame on the people who are to blame.

    The State of TMH

I am happy to see our County and City officials coming before us in the State of the County. I am excited to also hear from the tourism association and the EDP. This is the time that each organization gets to stand up in front of John-Q-Public and be held accountable for how things went during the previous year. Sadly, I don't see The Memorial Hospital listed on the group of speakers. Our administration team is very hip on accountability these days as they have little signs posted all over the building stating that each employee must be held accountable for their actions OR else!.

I am sure they must have some really pressing engagements that prevent them from attending this function as they must be excited to let everyone know that employee moral is lower than it ever has been, at least in my 10+ year history. I know they can't wait to let everyone know that they will lose over a million dollars this year and that we pay to have our CEO and CFO gallivanting all over the country. I know they are thrilled to be able to tell the public how education for the medical staff has been slashed, but were able to spend thousands of dollars to buy trees for a hospital that isn't finished yet, meanwhile we barely have enough cash to pay our employees. While the employees never got a bonus this year both the CFO and CEO did from their bosses. Equally electrifying is the fact that almost every week they deploy a new management gimmick to change our “culture,” and have sent people all over the country to get training on the next new scheme. Three years ago we had a lot of really great employees lose their jobs because we had “to many.” Now they hire someone new almost weekly to replace the good ones who quit because they couldn't take the BS anymore or to fill some useless position. The last time I posted on this forum I was told by a manager that they thought I was the one who posted and if I ever did it again I would be fired. I have already been looking for a new job, but since demand for healthcare workers in my profession is relatively low in this area there is not a lot available. Like everyone here, I fear for my job, not because I do a bad job, but because we have some Bi-Polar people at the top running our organization, and that is the state of TMH.

New iDashboard software? What the heck is that? Is that where the money that was suppose to be for our “p r o m i s e d” bonuses went? The bonuses we never received because the hospital couldn't afford it. We are dumping money on every whim for senior management but not a dime for the staff. I know, lets make it all better by having another cook off, that will make up for it.

Rumors around the hospital is that because Joint Commission keeps flunking us on our accreditation that HUD has told us they won't fund us to run a new hospital if we can't even run the one we have.

The fat administrator keeps flying all over the country on the tax payer's dime (he is gone about half the time) meanwhile they whelched on paying employees any kind of bonus because they weren't able to justify it financially. Fact is, if it wasn't for Randy Phelps making a bunch of money, setting up the foundation, and getting county and DOLA money the guys currently running the place wouldn't even be able to afford to do the crappy job they are doing. I will be surprized if the new hospital ever gets built - especially at the rate that we are losing knowledgable staff and replacing them with low-cost inexperienced ones. Just take a look at the employement section of the daily press and you will see how many positions the hospital always has open. I fear the ship is sinking. My husband and I are already looking at making the move to junction or rifle - I am just glad my youngest is now out of school so I don't have that to worry about too, I feel sorry for the nurses and staff that have just hired on with this mess.

Hospital board, I challenge you to look pass the smiles and bull crap our administrators are giving you and come seek out employees and ask them what is going on. The CEO and CFO are telling you one thing and the truth is going untold. Community members, - talk to you neighbor who works here and ask them how moral is. Yes the service is great in spite of lack of leadership. That can be credited to the hardworking people who dedicate themselves to being the best we can. We are doing it without support or leadership.

We all want to see a new hospital built and I am confident that it can be accomplished, but how many individuals' careers and lives will have to be ruined so our CFO and CEO can put it on their resume. They will both be turning the keys of their cars to move away as the new building door key is turned. Their actions show they have little or no regard for their staff or this community. They are looking at outsourcing many of the vital services we perform locally and provide good jobs for dozens of people. The CFO already tried to disastrously outsource payroll to Denver and is now outsourcing laundry services. After that they are looking at outsourcing patient records and billing services. When will it stop? I am also mad now because all of the money I have donated to the hospital foundation is being used to pay our current bills because we are doing so poorly financially. Are our CFO and CEO not accountable to the people who gave a million dollars to the foundation? Are they not accountable to the foundation board for using this money inappropriately?

Again, I ask you all to talk to your neighbor. Ask them to give you their opinion on our CEO and CFO. I think you will be surprised at what you here.

(I feel compeled to post it here too).

I have often read these articles but I have never been very motivated to add anything to the conversation. It seems there are already enough people writing comments that anything I could add wouldn't account for much. But today I feel different. Having seen now three CEOs and three CFOs come through our doors I feel I am a relatively good judge of administrative character and I feel compeled to start asking the question “what is our hospital administrators doing?” We have a CFO that has had every person who works under him either fired, demoted, or quite because he fosters a very bad working environment. These aren't slacker employees. These are employees who have been singled out as being some of our best, but because the CFO is incapable of managing his departments, they are treated as scape goats and run off when his policies fail. It isn't just those that work for him, but almost every manager in the hospital has found you can't work with him. Seek out almost any hospital employee and they will tell you how bad of a job he is doing. Many of our department managers don't even want him around their departments because whatever he touches he ruins.

Sadly, our CEO isn't any better. While he is a nice guy to your face we receive almost no support to do our jobs. Yes, Randy wasn't the best CEO, but atleast he supported his staff and gave them the tools they needed to do their jobs. Our nursing staff receives very little education to keep skills current because all of our money is being funneled into the new hospital. They cut corners on maintenance and when we don't pass inspection he blames the department manager and forces him to quit. Neither the CEO or the CFO is being held accountable for their actions and it seems like they don't have to answer to anyone. It seems as if one of them tells a lie and the other will back him up. All through this I would like to know where our hospital board is? They have to see what is going on. They have to know that our administration received the lowest marks ever for employee satisfaction. It is widely known that they just laughed at the results of the employee survey and said they mean nothing.

I am beginning to think that the only reason that the CFO and CEO are being kept around is because our board is so focused on getting the new hospital built that they are willing to overlook negligence and very bad practices because they feel they have invested too much to change leaders at this junction. Many of the managers who see our cash and income reports believe that if they brought in a new CFO they would uncover that we are all being deceived. I read Stan Hawthorns posts and thought he was full of poo until I started talking with our department managers.
