I guess so ranger520. Something doesn't feel right.
They only have to post it on the Door to the Fire Department and a somewhere else, in a certain amount of time before the meeting. That is all that is required be the guideline that goveren a Special Board. They say that they are getting the word out, and I did see a few mentions to this meeting in the paper. But I agree with you (Thefatguy) this one should have had a little more advertisement. They are trying to prove that they aren't hiding anything, they should be more proactive. But they will say that they have been this way for years, and that you are the one that needs to be informed. This is a way to shift focus off themselves and on to the public. It's a good move, but not the most direct. Well this should make some people mad. But I am not saying anything that hasn't been said by these people in their board meetings. So we will see, I still think that they are trying to sneak this building in. I still think there is something that they aren't tell the people, and even the firefighters themselves. I just wish that I knew what it was, just an opinion from my past experience.
DougS, I like your stance. I would love to talk to you, but if we discuss things in this forum other people can see the way two logical people can discuss a hot topic. As things stand it looks like a even sided battle, half (estimate) want this tower half (estimate) don't. I have a option for the fire board, maybe it might work. The original vote that was voted down before 2006 was a 2nd station right? I think the public has accepted that the fire department will build on this land, but another station 1st and then add the tower later. It gives the people protection, expands the department, helps the truck problems (too many trucks for the space they are in) and starts the project tword the tower. Ease the tax payers into this while still helping the department. Both sides win. If the board turned there focus right now, I estimate that most people would like this, or at least accept this. It saves some money, and shows that the fire board cares about every opinion(even though they don't need it RIGHT NOW). Some people will still complain, but that always happens. It is just an idea. And it will stop this public bantering, the letters to the paper and the businesses store front displays (Craig Fire Safety). I mean you don't see signs that say "1 billion served and by the way Craig editorial board is CLUELESS" Just a thought tell me what you think? You are in the position to tell the board what you think, I am not. I can't take the chance, but you can.
Again Firefighter Bravery not the issue here. You can get every person that has ever done the job (which is risking your life, I know I am one, that is what you sign on for) and say that they WANT this tower, but what does the community NEED. You can't treat the people you want to protect like this, you have to give out all the information. These posts are just an example of what a few people feel, good and bad. There are more bad than good, this should be a clue that maybe there might be a problem. I am not saying ranger520 speaks for the entire community, but neither does DougS. There is too many good points that need to be addressed before the people will back this fully. I hope people are at the meeting tonight, and at the next board meeting. If the boards won't listen get rid of them, and if those people won't listen get rid of them to. Time for the people to decide. If Craig wants this tower lets say YES, but if we don't lets Stop it by saying HELL NO.
Writing FACT doesn't make it a true fact. I have read the books also. Everyone is putting a lot of good ideas out. the "FACT" is the fire department IS well trained. The main funaction of the fire department is to save lives, property and serve the comunity. The better option would be a place to put vehicles and equipment that is filling up the existing staion. They have land behind Kmart, and now this land. This would get equipment and firefighters to us faster, right? Plus it would help our insurance ratings. This would better serve the people. The Fire Board and the officers are acting like a kid that was told "NO", I asked mom and she said no, now I ask dad maybe he will say yes. No disrespect to the men and women (firefighters) that help out every day, but don't hide behind that "FACT". This is a community and this is not a good idea in my opinion. Don't throw the bravery firefighters at people that are trying to make a good point. This is a little deceitful, the way the fire board is going about this. I would like to vote on this, I would like the option to use my american right to help my community.
This is a piece to make us all feel better. Funny how they are doing all these comments. Ranger 520 I think you are on to something. They don't need the approval of the tax payers they already have the start up money, they have already got the mill levy. If they really want to make us feel better, offer to revise the mill levy to put a sunset clause in it so this doesn't happen again. Or (even though they don't have to) put this to a vote with the public (like the paper did). I know they are scared and mad because of people like us. Hayden is still an option, they say that they will have to take a truck and personnel plus Hayden has to have personnel there also. Lets say there is a call, even if the fire fighters have to clean up a little they are still dressed in a fire truck and on the way, lets say 15-20 minutes or so (on scene, because they drive fast). The Firefighters in district will have to respond from their jobs or house, get dressed and get in a truck. This puts the first truck there in 7-15 minutes. The department is divided into two groups anyways, one is on a month then off the next while the second is on. Schedule the off group to train while the on group is in district. There is no reason to throw away money, there is still training options. The board and the officers do want a feather in their cap, even though they say they don't. This has been a hurdle for years with Craig, the tax payers don't want it, and if they do now LET THEM VOTE ON IT!!!!!!
Ranger520 don't let them deter you. This may be a ploy to get you off your game. Why would these people even get on the blog. They don't care about how they spend the money. They just want new toys at top dollar. This ckshnaethomas could be a plant, why is this person sticking up for the department. Ckshanethomas did you quit or get fired, because I have heard some things. Or do you want the throw more initials around, ya I know who you are to, but you are only guessing about me. Anonymous posting let us state our opinion without retaliation from these people in power. ckshanethomas knows all about this. I will be at the next board meeting, but I doubt you will. This is wrong what they are doing to the tax payers, and they can only be stopped if we replace them with leaders that want to follow the tax payers interests. See comments on Training Tower article.

Smalltowner you got it. If you look at the budget there is hundreds of thousands being allocated from next years budget for additions, and the year after (estimate). This is a multimillion dollar project. As I stated before the Fire Department has enough money to start this project (training tower) but it will be over the next couple of years that there will be a push for station 2. I have talked to Hayden (local firefighters, not the chief of West Routt) and they will let Craig use the tower for free, scheduling is open, they even were talking that they would train with them and possibly let them use equipment (so craig would not have to take equipment out of district). If training in live fire is the goal then the answer is free, but I assume that Craig will say that they have to train with their own equipment. That's fine there are plenty of vehicles and the cost would be less to go to Hayden then build. This is still the wrong decision, but I'm open to any suggestions.
I agree with you all. Remember Frank Schmedeke, not guilty. The chief of police gets caught with is gun missing and a inmate returns it and it gets buried. This can't be the norm. There has to be something we can do about this. I am getting ready to go into a paranoid rant so I will quit with, I hope this guy is innocent and files a lawsuit.
