Just this week, the ACLU's lawsuit against the Ector County, TX School District resulted in a settlement on the basis that the National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools curriculum never again be taught there. The same curriculum was kicked out of Florida schools in the lawsuit Gibson vs Lee County School Board.
The question the paper should be asking is: “Do you want to spend your tax dollars defending against a lawsuit?” Moffat County has made the right decision by choosing to evaluate all the Bible curricula available before taking action. The one now being proposed is not good enough for our kids.

See http://www.aclu.org/religion/schools/… (I am not a fan of the ACLU, but I don't want my tax dollars wasted on a lawsuit that they would surely file.)

This was a very wise move on the part of the Superintendent, because the curriculum being proposed is very risky. The Wikipedia entry linked below lays out all the legal problems with the course, including the fact that a case is going on right now in which eight parents and the ACLU sued Ector County, Texas' school board for adopting it.

I hope the school board will look into the other Bible curricula for public schools that are available, such as the one from the Bible Literacy Project. There is no need to use questionable products when there are academically sound and First-Amendment-safe courses available that will benefit our students.
