It sounds to me like the mayor has made our decision already. A committee has been formed to make a decision in just a few weeks that the past and present council members have not been able to do in four years. so what is new???

It doesn't seem to matter what the majority of the people want done, which is to leave the deer alone, or to do other things to discourage the deer.

As for me, i enjoy watching them in my yard. I have iris, peonies, and daisies which they do not bother. The evergreens seem to grow faster than they can eat them and just means that i don't have to trim them as often.

how naive can one be????????? terry carwile doesn't understand why 2b was blown out of the water. people are tired of the squandering of their tax money.

the defeat was not because of the proposed tax. it was because of the ploy to bring in more money to spend on futility.

    Just a thought–

Perhaps we should all vote for the lodging tax and use the capital construction and tourism promotion portions to build a fence around the city with toll gates at each entrance to town. It would not only keep the deer out, but tourists would flock to Craig to see the unique solution.

The city council could then pass an ordinance to charge all tourists when they try to exit through the fence. Then maybe they would spend a few more days here, thus paying more lodging tax. Think of all the income and publicity for Craig.

How easy it is to complain about taxes, then complain about declining services. Remember when TABOR required the state to refund the surplus back to the taxpayers not too many years ago? TABOR is a large part of the reason that the state is in the financial position that it is in. The proposed amendments and prop 101 would only serve to make it much worse.

Also, how often do you see the biggest complainers standing first in line for the bennies and then complain that they don't get enough from the government?

just what will a higher lodging tax do for the city?

build a new building that will serve very little purpose except to drain funds for operation and maintenance.

and what does Derose mean by promote craig? just what has the tourism committee done in the past except spend money.

and economic development means more than “shop at home” to most folks. when was the last time an outside industry decided to move to craig? i guess that development means to open a new store when another closes.

how does the council determine $550,000 will be collected? seems to me that since the number of rooms occupied is an unknown factor the council is daydreaming again.

i think it interesting that carwile wants voters to approve his tax plan and then decide where the funds will be spent. typical government mumbo jumbo. does he really think the voters are that ignorant????????

how does the tourism board committee plan to draw the tourist to craig? i don't think i have ever heard anyone say they were going to take their vacation in craig, colorado.

     cindylou—

speaking of stupid…..i think you are reading into the letter what you think you want it to say. nancy did not say that she and rich were in the car when their son was stopped. maybe they were and maybe not. also, what makes you think they were drunk and disorderly. sounds like you have an axe to grind with nancy.

canines, you are correct about dangerous drugs. but remember that drug prescriptions are made by highly trained, licensed medical professionals. how many marijuana dispensaries have that training? those persons who are truly in need should have access. but it has become obvious that the system is being abused.
