AltitudeAdjustment 5 years, 9 months ago on Candidates discuss recreation center

If you went to the candidate forum you would have heard that each candidate said very similar statements about a rec center. Mr. Bilodeau said, much like the other candidates, that a rec center is needed for kids, but the voting masses don't want to pay for it and it's not in the budget, and as such he wouldn't support it. Open gym time, raquet ball courts, indoor running track, indooor pool, weights, etc. would be great for the community. The two current fitness centers in craig are under utilized, but that does not mean that a rec center that offered more ammenities would'nt be used properly. How about Trapper/College and Holistic do a joint venture and have the city and county kick in some tax incentives and free land to have it built. Neither of the two fitness centers are very appealing and they only offered limited ammenities. Like Mr. Bilodeau I think we could use a rec center but I don't want to see tax dollars pay for it, atleast if the current economic conditions continue to exist

Thanks Native for voice of support! It not only an eye sore I think there are environmental violations. If the EPA ever got any complaints on this place I am sure it would only take a single soil sample to see that toxins are being leached into the ground and that sight is just a stones throw away from a major western watershed. If his name was Exxon or Shell they would be fining him thousands of dollars a day for what is going onto/into the ground. I don't think anyone can be grandfathered into maintaining an evironmental hazard like this so close to our fresh water supply.

My favorite view in Craig is the Salvage Yard that sits on the bluff east of town. How much oil, trany fluid, gas, brake fluid, grease, etc is being leached into our water system every year from that eye sore? As you come in from the east side of town all you see is a big junk yard with rusting old car bodies oozing crap into the soil and eventually into the river just a mile or so up stream from our water treatment plant. Almost everywhwere else in the country that type of Junk yard is being told to clean it up or get shut down. I would like to see someone address that trash pile. You want to improve people's perception of craig? Get rid of that 80 acre plot of rusting wrecks.

Sooooooo I could be wrong because I went to school in another state, but if I multiplied 40,000,000 by 1,000,000 I come up with a number that is in the neighborhood of 40 trillion dollars which is ten times our nations GDP. So if we put it in to numbers we can actually comprehend that would be like taking ten times your annual sallary and giving it to your kids. If you made 100,000 a year you would take out a loan for 1,000,000 and give 250,000 to each of your four kids. You would require nothing of them, but to go out and spend it. You would then pay out 60,000 in interest each year (assuming 6%) and still try to keep the lights on. So if you already had a mortgage, car payments, utilities, etc. you would be hard pressed to even service the interest on the debt let alone pay any of the principal down. Math doesn't seem to work out on this one. Keep coming up with the ideas though.

This is the best human interest piece the CDP has done in a long time. This is exactly what a small town paper is suppose to do. I think the news papers of today can take a lesson from how community papers reported thet news 70+ years ago. We want to know how our neighbors are doing and who's who in the community. I could care less if PBO is on Leno or if someone in Denver is doing something stupid for the 500th time. We want to see and know what is going on in ur community. Great job Ben!

I think that the reason our highways are in such bad condition in this area is because of all the oil field service vehicles that have been driving on them in the last couple years. So to pay to have them repaired my vehicle registration is going to increase? I think they need to tax the tar out of studded tires and increase fines for people who are running them after April 1 or before November 1.

Lets see if the community can show up on this one a little more. I propose that a major fundraiser be held in the next two weeks to see how many people are willing to show up and throw down a benjamin to help make this town a better place to live. If you have kids that participate in P&R you should be more than happy to contribute something. Heck MEEKER is willing to do it, why not us? Let's see if we can nibble away at the $150,000 by coming together as a community and pledging to pick up the first $50,000. That is equivalent to $4 bucks a head. Stay home for dinner one night this month, don't rent a movie one night this week, walk to work one day, go with out your pack of smokes for one day, or skip your daily trip to Mathers just onece and we will have more than enough money to pay for it.

Size means very little in high school girls basketball. MC run'em into the ground and shoot their lights out and those big sasquatches from Broomfield will need to be life-flighted to Denver Zoo to be worked on by the best Vets available.
