Laura Trabka is the assistant editor for the Steamboat Pilot & Today. She is in charge of budgeting the daily newspaper and works with reporters on story assignments and editing, and she assists with planning news content for the online and print editions. She started working for the newspaper as a copy editor in August 2009 and then took on the role of evening editor in July 2011. Laura grew up in Muskegon, Mich., where she spent a lot of time enjoying Lake Michigan by sailing, kayaking and lounging on the beach. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Grand Valley State University in Michigan. While at Grand Valley, she worked as a copy editor, news writer and special sections editor at the student newspaper, the Grand Valley Lanthorn. After graduating in April 2008, she interned on the copy desk for the Kalamazoo Gazette in Michigan and then worked for the Bowling Green Daily News in Kentucky in 2008 and 2009.
Five Routt and Moffat County nonprofits were awarded grants after going through six months of professional development training with Yampa Valley Community Foundation and Shell to ultimately come up with a long-term financial plan.
