Fire totals trailer

Craig — No one was injured in a fire that destroyed a trailer on Moffat County Road 211 at about 7 p.m. Saturday night.
Fire Chief Chris Nichols said the cause of the fire is unknown. Initial investigation of the fire revealed strong winds may have blown the trailer’s roof off, which then hit a power line, causing the fire.
“The wind was blowing pretty strong from the north to south when we got here,” Nichols said. “It definitely influenced the fire’s behavior. The fire jumped 60 yards and started a spot fire in an adjacent field.”
The small fire across CR 211 was quickly extinguished.
No one was in the trailer at the time of the fire. Nichols said the trailer had been vacant for some time.
A camper next to the trailer was partially damaged by the fire, but other vehicles and structures on the property appeared to be unharmed.
Yampa Valley Electric Association crews also responded to the call, as did Moffat County Sheriff’s Office deputies and The Memorial Hospital emergency medical technicians.
