Communities at Work: Nourishing minds
The Moffat County School District’s primary goal is to feed the minds of the community’s children. This edition of Communities At Work focuses on some of the district’s employees who work to assure that students’ minds are not the only thing receiving nourishment while on school grounds. The kitchen crew at Moffat County High School prepares lunch and delivers it to the middle school and all of the elementary schools in the Craig area. They also serve food and work as cashiers during lunchtime at the high school. Giving students the necessary brain fuel to continue learning throughout the afternoon, and the nutrients needed during their physical growth, these lunch ladies play a critical, and at times overlooked, role in students’ overall development.
Maxine Monger, left, gives MCHS student Jamilia Luckey her change Wednesday after paying for a meal in the cafeteria. Monger also helps prepare food in the kitchen earlier in the morning.
