Communities at Work: Nourishing minds January 16, 2010
The Moffat County School District’s primary goal is to feed the minds of the community’s children. This edition of Communities At Work focuses on some of the district’s employees who work to assure that students’ minds are not the only thing receiving nourishment while on school grounds. The kitchen crew at Moffat County High School prepares lunch and delivers it to the middle school and all of the elementary schools in the Craig area. They also serve food and work as cashiers during lunchtime at the high school. Giving students the necessary brain fuel to continue learning throughout the afternoon, and the nutrients needed during their physical growth, these lunch ladies play a critical, and at times overlooked, role in students’ overall development.
Renee Turner places turkey corn dogs on a tray to be heated for lunch Thursday at the Moffat County High School kitchen. The kitchen staff prepares and serves food and also work as cafeteria cashiers.
Sarah Harkner, left, restocks the pizza line while Krista Wildermuth hands portions to students in the lunch line Wednesday at the MCHS cafeteria. The cafeteria offers a variety of pizzas to fit the students’ taste buds.
Judy Baker, Moffat County School District director of food services, speaks on the phone Wednesday in her office in the MCHS kitchen. Baker plans a meal schedule and coordinates the delivery of meals to other schools in the Craig area.
