Communities at Work: Meeker man has spent almost 50 years making saddles
It can be argued that there is a point when any craft becomes an art form. Bob Klenda, of Meeker, contends it is a progression through the years. "As they develop, it becomes art," he said. Klenda made his first saddle almost 50 years ago and is still creating them today. He has spent many years perfecting his work and now spends his days in his shop, Klenda's Custom Saddlery, which is south of Meeker. At his shop, he makes his own saddles and teaches others how to theirs. For more information, Klenda can be reached at 878-5382.
There are many different patterns and styles used when creating a saddle. Pictured is a basket-weave pattern, but many styles are carved into the leather by hand. Klenda creates each saddle differently, tailored to customers' needs.
