Communities at Work: Meeker man has spent almost 50 years making saddles
It can be argued that there is a point when any craft becomes an art form. Bob Klenda, of Meeker, contends it is a progression through the years. "As they develop, it becomes art," he said. Klenda made his first saddle almost 50 years ago and is still creating them today. He has spent many years perfecting his work and now spends his days in his shop, Klenda's Custom Saddlery, which is south of Meeker. At his shop, he makes his own saddles and teaches others how to theirs. For more information, Klenda can be reached at 878-5382.
In 2005, Klenda moved to Meeker. But, he opened his first saddle-making shop in 1962 in Fruita. He now is the president of the Colorado Saddle Makers Association and also teaches saddle making in his shop.
