Communities at work: Meat the Satterwhites
For brothers Bob and Dave Satterwhite, processing is a family affair. Their father owned a meat locker and it's a tradition they've carried on with Brothers Custom Processing, located at 383 E. First St. The business, which opened in 2001, features a retail section with just about any type of meat a person could ask for. They also sell homemade processing kits, knives and barbecue items. But, despite the other offering, the bottom line comes down to meat. Bob, who handles much of the production side of the business, seems to know his trade well. He said he's definitely a carnivore. "In training to be a butcher, you learn that anything green is to be thrown away," Bob said with a laugh. "Well, I follow that in my personal life."
Brothers co-owner Dave Satterwhite prepares between 700 and 800 hotdogs Wednesday that were prepared that morning. Brothers takes many different types of special orders and also offers on-sight butchering and processing for hunters and ranchers.
