Communities at Work, July 12
With the onset of summer and dry season having descended upon the area, local ranchers are heading out into the fields. They pilot huge machines to cut, turn and bale hay into circles and rectangles for, among other things, cattle consumption. At Frosty Acres Ranch, north of Craig, the Camillettis are out hard at work with the help of the family, making haying season in full effect.
There are two types of irrigation systems used at Frosty Acres Ranch to water the alfalfa. In the foreground is a side roll irrigation system, which the family must move every day. In the background is an irrigation pivot, which is automated and takes about 2 1/2 days to cover about 110 acres.
