Win-win situation
The Hayden Marketplace, 144 Walnut St. in downtown Hayden, has its walls lined with art. From painting and photography to leather and jewelry, what's inside is a smattering of just about every discipline. The marketplace is supported by its 28 members, who live anywhere from McCoy to Steamboat to Craig to Lay, who work two four-hour shifts a month, keeping the store staffed. They also pay a membership fee and rent, which keeps it running. When a piece of art is sold, the money goes back to the artist at the end of the month, and the store keeps 10 percent. "It's a win-win for everybody," said Ann Copeland, president and contributing artist of the Hayden Marketplace on Historic Walnut Street, LLC. "A win for the valley and a win for the members."
