The Duroc, distinguished by its red hide and drooping ears, was one of six female hogs that farrowed a total of 55 piglets at the Chapman's farm last weekend.
A Berkshire gilt hog rolls on her side to allow her first ever litter of nine piglets to nurse. Gilts are first time mothers, and although they are known to sometimes reject their babies, this one, called the Torge Gilt, accepted her maternal responsibilities naturally.

Paula and her husband, JB, raise show hogs at their home and hog farm a few miles north of Craig. The family company bears the initials of their son, Nathan, who inspired the Chapmans to begin raising hogs in 2005.
