Moffat County mourns Newtown, Conn. victims. More than 60 Craig and Moffat County residents attended a candlelight vigil Friday night on the Moffat County Courthouse lawn to mourn the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn. Although more than 2,000 miles separates Craig from Newtown local resident Shirley Cromer said she felt inclined to do something after this morning’s tragedy. It wasn’t that long ago, she said, when the entire country rallied around the families of victims lost this summer during the Aurora theater shooting. “It’s just something I felt like I had to do,” Cromer said. “Newtown is a small town just like Craig. It can happen here, it can happen to our neighbors in Hamilton or Hayden, it can happen anywhere. “We had the Aurora shooting this summer, the mall shooting in Oregon, dozens of children were wounded during a stabbing at a Chinese school today in addition to what happened in Connecticut. These things need to stop. People need to stop taking all of their problems out on the innocents.”
