Wyatt Mortenson, 9, comes to the finish line Saturday at the Dew Buster 5K Run/Walk and One-Mile Family Fun Run at Loudy-Simpson Park. Mortenson finished second overall in the 5K race, recording a time of 23:15.
Amy Andrews towels off her client, Max, a miniature Australian shepherd, in the back room of D’Tail Dog Grooming Salon. Andrews, 55, opened the business a year ago, following several years working with Canines Unlimited. She has lived in Craig since 1975.
Mindy Curtis accepted a position last month as Moffat County’s new finance director. Curtis spent 16 of her 18-year career as the accounting specialist for the Moffat County Department of Social Services.
A view of the Wolf Fire, a 6,100-acre blaze actively burning in Moffat County about five miles south of Elk Springs. Steep, rugged terrain on the fire’s southern perimeter has slowed firefighting efforts. The Wolf Fire is reportedly 40-percent contained.
This aerial photo of the Wolf Fire was taken Friday afternoon during a reconnaissance flight of the scene. The Wolf Fire has grown to 6,100 acres. Full containment is estimated by Aug. 10.
Food at the 2012 Colorado State BBQ Championship at Craig wasn’t reserved to just the competition judges. Gabe and Joy Daigle, of Mom and Pops Bar-B-Q in Craig, set up at Loudy-Simpson Park and sold their Cajun-smoked sausage to spectators.

Bob and Louise Sammons, of Oops BBQ in Grand Junction, had a nice showing taking home second place in the pork category, seventh in brisket, and fifth place overall at the 2012 Colorado State BBQ Championship at Craig.
Craig’s hometown team, Webber’s Old West BBQ, featuring Brian, Donna, Denette and Alan, took fourth place in the pork category at the 2012 Colorado State BBQ Championship at Craig. Though disappointed in the performance, Alan said the team is looking forward to defending its grand champion title in September at the Colorado Pork & Hops Challenge in Grand Junction.

Twelve hot air balloon pilots took to the skies early Saturday morning as part of the Balloons and BBQ Blast in Craig. Among the participants were Lu Taxvard, of Longmont; Shannon White, of Fort Collins; Don Stockley, of Murray, Utah; Bruce Pivic, of Rock Springs, Wyo.; David Bair, of Colorado Springs; Kent Barnes, of Murray, Utah; Karl Peterson, of Salt Lake City; Ernie Hartt, of Cardiff, Calif.; Frank Hunter, of Colorado Springs; Barbi Hahn of Parker; Chad Morin, of Crested Butte; and Nolan Schuler, of Colorado Springs.
