Maddie Reed listens during her first day of school at Sandrock Elementary. With the school district's reconfiguration, Sandrock now houses preschool through fifth-grade classes. It formerly was used for fifth- and sixth-grade students.
Shane Reed looks to his kindergarten teacher, Colleen Wildenhaus, during a family connection day at the school. The program, which occurs several times throughout the year, is meant to acclimate parents and students to the school.

Members of the Yampa Valley Piecemakers Quilt Guild recently displayed quilts they made for local cancer patients. The Quilt Guild is trying to encourage interest in quilting, and those interested are invited to call membership chairwoman Roberta Ahlstrom at 824-4617 or vice president Linda Pinnt at 824-5219.
