Barb Nielson holds up the first place award-winning block she sewed for the Northwest Colorado Block Contest at the Wyman Museum on Thursday. The Yampa Valley Peacemakers quilting guild organized the contest with help from the Wyman Museum. All of the 13 blocks entered are to be quilted together as a full quilt and displayed at the Craig Chamber of Commerce. Nielson won a sewing box filled with needles, thread, chocolate and a $50 gift certificate donated by KS Kreation.
Clyde the elk strolls through the first snow of the season in his pen on the Wyman Museum grounds Thursday. His caretakers give him a little extra food during the winter months to insulate him with a little extra fat. Clyde also has a thicker coat grown for the winter and lays in the sun to warm up on colder days.
