Corporal James Tomas McCombs, of the U.S. Marine Corps, was killed in action March 16, 1945, or D-Day plus 25, in Iwo Jima. Pictured above are the medals a grateful nation awarded McCombs, including a Purple Heart, shown in the center. A local veteran is attempting to locate McCombs' family and return the medals to its rightful place.
