Some of the 138 Moffat County High School sophomores and juniors who have tested proficient on the Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAPs) in the areas of math, science and reading/writing pose for a picture Friday. Future CSAPs will be required for freshmen and sophomores. Students who test proficient will receive class credit.
A Bower Brothers Construction dump truck hauls dirt Thursday at the Frazier East development site. Crews have moved about 140,000 yards of dirt in the past three months in anticipation of construction work starting later this year. A new apartment complex is expected to be the first building project in the area, followed by affordable housing and commercial developments.
Chanel Caughy cuts off 10 inches of Hannah McCreight's hair at her salon, Styling in Steamboat, on Friday. Hannah grew her hair with her mother, Wendy, to donate to Locks of Love in memory of a friend.
Hannah, left, and Wendy McCreight hold the hair they donated Friday to Locks of Love. The McCreights decided to donate their hair in memory of friend Debbie Sherman-Hurst, who died of breast cancer in July 2008. Sherman-Hurst worked at McCreight's dental office for 10 years as a hygienist.
Aside from the thrift shop, Canto makes hand-made olive oil soaps with tallow that she sells out of her store. She makes lotions, bath salts, hoof cream and many other things under the name of Bee-Natural.
Gail Canto organizes clothes Wednesday at her store, Charlotte's Web, at 1313 N. Yampa Ave. Canto keeps clothing for everybody on hand in her shop, children to adult.
A group of 17 snowmobilers, including veterans and Northwest Colorado Snowmobile Club members made the 60-mile trip Feb. 28 to the base of Pilot's Knob, shown above, north of Hayden. Elkhorn Winter Adventures supplied the snowmobiles, helmets and tour, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4265 supplied lunch for the veterans.
Cub Scouts Pack No. 166 hosted a Pinewood Derby on March 7 at the Centennial Mall. Thirty-nine cars were entered.

Winners of the Downtown Books/The Print Shop Second Annual Bookmark Contest are, from left to right, Hailey Cass, Hali Reyes and Erica Davidson. Reyes, a second-grader in Mrs. Arnett's class at Sunset Elementary, won first place, and Cass, also in Arnett's class, won second place. Davidson, a fourth-grader in Mrs. Haslem's class at Sunset, won third place. Winners were presented with their awards Monday at Downtown Books. They were awarded with Spree Bucks. Reyes' first-place entry will be made into a bookmark that will be available at the bookstore and the Moffat County Libraries.
Jeremiah Herman, community relationship manager for Relay for Life, speaks to a crowd Wednesday at the Relay For Life kickoff at Centennial Mall. This year's goal is to raise $105,000 through the event, which is scheduled for July 17 at the Moffat County High School track.
