Moffat County Sheriff Tim Jantz practices his swing Thursday at Yampa Valley Golf Course. Jantz and the rest of the Sheriff's Office are sponsoring the Sheriff's Scramble golf tournament Saturday. The tournament begins with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m.
Sophie-Shifra Gold signs directions during a game at a deaf social earlier this year. Another social is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday behind Calvary Baptist Church at 1050 Yampa Ave. There will be a free barbecue, a skit show and a deaf guest speaker. Fishing will follow. Lee Hoth said his best-seller is the horseshoe lamp. He creates many different things, however, including picture frames, Christmas cacti, wall lamps, crosses, butterflies, flowers and lawn ornaments.

Hoth said he goes through about five or six five-gallon buckets of horseshoes a year. He acquires them from friends in the area.
Lee Hoth began creating pieces of artwork out of horseshoes 10 years ago, shortly after he retired. Hoth, a lifelong rancher, creates many different things out of the horseshoes at his home near Lay.
