The Moffat County High School varsity girls swim team celebrates Saturday at the conclusion of its lone home meet of the season. The Bulldogs won in their water for the fifth consecutive year.
Ron Dellacroce, park manager for Yampa River State Park and Elkhead Reservoir, leads the Avalanche Training class Saturday at Johnson Meadows. Dellacroce explains to attendees how to use an avalanche transceiver, or a beacon, when searching for avalanche victims. The class, which started at the Freeman Reservoir trailhead, was designed to provide information to snowmobile riders about how to avoid getting caught, and rescue those who are caught, in an avalanche.
Bo Lyons, of Craig, uses a beacon to find to find another beacon that has been hidden in the snow to simulate a recovery mission Saturday at Johnson Meadows.
Snowmobile riders listen as Ron Dellacroce explains how to read different types of snow and what to look for to determine what is dangerous.
