Bonnie Roesink, 14th Judicial District Attorney, is stepping down after 22 years of serving the tri-county judicial district. Roesink, who did not run for re-election, was appointed district attorney by Gov. Bill Owens in 2003 and re-elected in an unopposed bid a year later. Elizabeth Oldham, the 14th's assistant district attorney, will take charge Wednesday after she's sworn into office in Grand County.
The ice resurfacer runs on propane, as opposed to gasoline, because burning the propane doesn't produce carbon monoxide in the enclosed rink.
The resurfacer is kept in an adjacent shed and is driven into the rink nightly before making its way around the course.
As he makes his way around the rink, Kincheloe is shaving off 1/32 of an inch of ice and then putting down a layer of water. The rink's refrigeration system keeps the ice at 17 to 19 degrees, which causes the water to freeze in two to three minutes, making it ready to skate on.
Matt Kincheloe checks the snow dump on the ice resurfacer Tuesday night after one of the practices held at the Moffat County Ice Arena. Each time the machine is taken onto the ice, 250 gallons of water are laid down to fill in grooves and create a smooth surface.

Moffat County resident Kenneth Osborn remembers a night when a group of ranchers building an outhouse at a cow camp forgot to bring hinges. Part practical and part prank, the ranchers cut out the soles of a pair of work boots to use for hinges - and then left the boots where they found them next to the outhouse for the owner to discover the missing soles. This drawing shows how the boot soles were once used as hinges on an outhouse.
