Signs at the entrance to Rifle Correctional Center will remain standing now that the facility is off the state's budgetary chopping block. State Sen. Al White, R-Hayden, was the driving force behind an effort to keep the prison and its 47 full-time employees safe from the flurry of budget cuts sweeping the Capitol.
The Rifle Correctional Center is a key source of stable jobs in the area, White said. It will be important to keep diverse employment available in areas typically dependent on the energy industry because oil and gas companies seem to be leaving Colorado, White said.
