Kevin Peck, son of Betsy Peck, accepts the KRAI/Craig Daily Press Citizen of the Year award on behalf of his mother Tuesday night during the 2009 State of the County address at the Holiday Inn of Craig. Members of the award committee said Betsy Peck, who was out of town and unable to attend the event, stood out from about 25 people who were under consideration for the honor.
Moffat County High School wrestling coach Roman Gutierrez looks on Friday during the state championships. Gutierrez said this year's event featured some of the toughest competition in years.
Bulldogs sophomore Charlie Griffiths squares off with Jimmy Zahtilla in his final match Friday night. Griffiths won his first-round match Thursday, but he lost twice Friday to get eliminated from the event with a 1-2 tournament record.
Moffat County High School sophomore Cody Nelson fights to stay off his back Friday against Armando Arrequin from Mitchell High School. Nelson lost the match, 5-1, eliminating him from the 2008-09 state championships.
Bulldogs junior Nathan Tomlin battles Zach Legino from Roosevelt High School on Friday night in what would prove to be Tomlin's final match of the 2008-09 season. Tomlin finished the event with a 1-2 record, ending the season 31-7 overall.
A lone bull elk bugles amidst the sagebrush in Moffat County. The Colorado Division of Wildlife plans to host a public forum Tuesday at the American Legion Post 62, 1055 Moffat County Road 7, in Craig to discuss the agency's next five-year season structure for hunting big game animals, such as elk.
Tri-State Generation and Transmission officials plan to start work April 4 on a $39 million retrofit at the Craig power plant. The retrofit will focus on making environmental renovations to one of the plant's generation units, which will allow the plant to put out an additional 30 megawatts of electricity without increasing emissions.
Betsy Peck was chosen to be the recipient of the KRAI/Craig Daily Press Citizen of the Year award.
Nathan Tomlin, a Moffat County High School junior, soaks in the scenery Friday night at the Pepsi Center before his final match of the 2009 high school state wrestling championships in Denver. The Bulldogs went 3-8 at the event, failing to place a wrestler for the first time in 22 years.
